NEW HAVEN RAIL YARD - CAR & DIESEL SHOP REHABILITATION
The project involves the full rehabilitation of the existing car shop and diesel shop at the New Haven Rail Yard. Yonkers Contracting Company, as the general contractor, is responsible for managing all work, coordinating all trades, and delivering a complete, functioning facility.
The work starts with demolition of existing structures, equipment, and utilities, including removal or abandonment of underground systems and clearing the site. After that, the project includes civil work such as excavation, grading, drainage, and pavement reconstruction, along with modifications to the railroad tracks and surrounding yard.
Structural work includes building new foundations, slabs, and steel framing, along with repairs and upgrades to the existing buildings. Inside the shops, the contractor installs and coordinates industrial equipment like car hoists, cranes, and train washing systems.
All building systems are upgraded or replaced, including mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm, electrical, standby and traction power, gas, and compressed air systems. New utilities are installed or relocated across the site, and modern IT, communications, and security systems are added.
All work must be performed in phases to keep the yard operational, with full coordination required with CTDOT, Amtrak, and Metro-North.
