ALL PORT AUTHORITY CROSSINGS FULLY UPGRADED TO CASHLESS TOLLING
On December 11th, the last of the PANYNJ cash toll booths were deactivated at the Lincoln Tunnel. This is the final part of the agency's upgrade to a new state-of-the-art cashless tolling system. Yonkers has been a part of the Port Authority's cashless tolling projects at the George Washington Bridge, Goethals Bridge, Outerbridge Crossing, Holland Tunnel, and Lincoln Tunnel.
SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION OF YONKERS $95M NEWBURGH-BEACON BRIDGE PROJECT
Governor Kathy Hochul announced the substantial completion of the full deck replacement project and the full reopening of the north span of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on September 30th to recognize the project. The substantial completion of this Yonkers project is nine months ahead of the original schedule. The project, which started in December 2020, was originally scheduled for completion in summer 2023.
STAMFORD PARKING GARAGE DESIGN-BUILD PROJECT
Yonkers was selected as the Design-Builder for the Stamford Parking Garage project. The garages’ footprint sits in an urban neighborhood nestled between I-95 and Metro-North Railroad, and elevated above South State Street. The project is currently in its second year of construction. During the first year, overhead and underground utilities were relocated or removed, the new storm drain system was added, all 600 linear feet of retaining walls were built, garage foundations were finalized, the precast concrete garage was fabricated and erected, and the structural steel for the elevator tower was completed. At the end of the first year, the project also reached a major milestone by reconstructing South State Street under the new garage and opening it up to the traveling public. In the second and final year of the project, the pedestrian bridge that connects the new garage to the existing train station will be completed, as well as all architectural elements including the illuminated metal basket façade, three all-glass elevators and new direct access from the new parking garage to the existing train platform. The new parking garage and its iconic pedestrian bridge will provide seamless intermodal transportation connections to the train station, train platforms, and local streets.
First Six Months of 2022
Yonkers had a very successful first half of 2022, with contract awards for five highway and bridge projects for New York State DOT and Connecticut DOT, and a Design-Build Substation project at JFK Airport for the Port Authority, and a Substation Replacement project for PATH In New Jersey.
